Rita’s Really Good Cookies

Everyone has a favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe.  This is mine (and I’d venture to guess City Girl’s also).  And, not to be biased or anthing, but my cookie is better than your cookie!  Nya nya!  Ahem…anyways…

CG originally got this recipe from a family friend and I stole it pretty quickly after. It is my go-to cookie recipe and for good reason too.  When I bring them to work or a get-together, I always get comments on how soft and rich they are.  I also get numerous requests for the recipes.  I can almost recite the ingredients by heart!  To emphasize just how good these cookies are, when Farm Boy first tasted them, he said, “Mmm…honey, these cookies are even better than Chips Ahoy!”  And there you have it!

  • 2 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 sticks butter, melted
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 1/2 cups flour
  • dash salt
  • 2 packages chocolate chips
  • 2 1/2 tsp. soda

Beat the first six ingredients until fluffy.  Add the last four ingredients and stir until well combined.  Drop by tablespoonful onto cookie sheet and bake at 350.  Take cookies out before completely done, about 11 minutes.  Enjoy with a large glass of cold milk (preferably good, healthy Wisconsin milk, not that crappy California stuff :-) ).

The way it is written, the recipe makes 10 dozen cookies.  I prefer to do it this way, because if I’m going to make my kitchen dirty, I want to go all out.  If this seems a bit daunting to you, the recipe is very easily halved.  And, no, there will be no points for these cookies.  Just enjoy them.  (Or, do as my mom does.  Break each cookie in half so all the calories fall out.  Problem solved.)

  1. Oooh those look good. Cos I live on the other side of the world, though, what does a stick of butter and a ‘package’ of chocolate chips weigh in your world? (oz is OK I can convert)

  2. Sassydot–
Thank you for the compliment! As for the measurements: a package of chocolate chips is 12 oz (24 oz total for the recipe) and a stick of butter is 4 oz (8 oz total for the recipe). I hope you enjoy the cookies! =)

  3. Thank you! I’m sure I will ;)
